The 12th day of Rabi-ul-awwal, the 3rd month of Islamic calendar is the day of Eid-e Miladunnabi. The day is observed in all over the Muslim world as the birthday of last Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W). As a Muslim country Bangladeshi people also observe this day with great importance and respect.

Why Eid-e Miladunnabi is Important?

For Muslims the day of Eid-e miladunnabi is one of the most sacred and important day. This day is especially important for holy Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W)’s birthday. But it is also the day of Prophet (S.A.W)’s death anniversary. So it is one of the most important days for Muslims of Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh Eid-e Miladunnabi holds great significance and celebration as holy Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) has taken birth on this day. Except Eid-e Miladunabi the month of Rabi-ul-awwal holds importance for two more reasons. Firstly, in this month Prophet (S.A.W) started his journey of Hijrah and made ‘Masjid-e-Quba’ the first mosque of Islam. Secondly, in Rabi-ul-awwalmonth first ‘Jummah Namaz’ was established.

The purpose of celebrating Eid-e Miladunnabi is to remember the Prophet (S.A.W), to learn how his life was and to apply it to own life. Eid-e-Miladunnabi is the occasion of gaining ethics, values and moralities.

How the Eid-e Miladunnabi observed in Bangladesh?

Eid-e Miladunnabi is a public holiday in Bangladesh. The day is observed with due reverence and religious fervor across the country. On Eid-e Miladunnabi Prime Minister and President gives separate massages. Different religious, socio-cultural and political organizations observe different programs like ‘milad mahfil’, ‘Quran Tilawat’ etc. Islamic Foundation of Bangladesh also arranges various programs on Eid-e Miladunnabi. Bangladeshi Muslims do prayers all over the night. TV channels and Radio Channels broadcast special religious programs on this occasion. In Bangladesh Eid-e Miladunnabi is observed as a very special day with due respect.


Eid-e Miladunnabi is the day of birth and death anniversary of holy Prophet of Muslim Mohammad (S.A.W) who is believed to be the last Prophet of Islam. As the day is both birth and death day of Mohammad (S.A.W) so the is observed with mix feeling in Bangladesh. It is the one of the most special and significant occasion for Bangladeshi Muslims.
